Serving the City of West Sacramento!

The K9 unit was established at the inception of the City of West Sacramento in 1987. Over the years the total number of K9 teams range from one to three at any given time. Currently the police department has two K9 teams and a K9 Sergeant.

The primary function of the Canine Unit is to reduce the opportunity for injury or death to officers engaged in the normal or dangerous scope of their duties. The Canine Unit operates as a specialized team; responsible for providing effective canine service whenever necessary.

A Canine Team is dispatched to calls involving suspects wanted for serious crimes or that are likely to be armed with deadly weapons. In those cases, canines used to apprehend a suspect is certainly preferable to the use of deadly force in taking a person into custody.

K-9 Trial Approaches

Trial PictureWell the Agility equipment is a larger project than we expected. Wyotech handling the metal and two local businesses donating powder coating and sandblasting, and of course LOWE"S donating the "Trex" material. ........Our equipment will be the BEST and will help all the K-9's in our group stay on top of their agility game. Pictures to come.....

K-9 "LAWDOGS" Trial

Our K-9 Trial Committee is working hard to make sure this is a fun well organized event. The folks on our committee are; Debbie Lugo, Ruth Pagano, Joe Escobar, Kristina Hunter, Martha Griffin, Nick Barreiro, Rich Bentley, Scott McCartney, Dan Gill, Julie Durrington, Veronica Garcia, Jason Fortier, Dawna Rosner, Tim Twardosz (aka Teabiscuit), Tod Sockman, Deanna Stevens, Jerry Watson and Marc Kirkland.

Thank you for all your efforts so far and in advance for the work to be done. Without these folks, I would lose my hair - "Darn, done that !"

Our agility equipment is still being refurbished into first class heavy duty agility equipment at Wyotech.
Using "Trex," reinforcing the steel and powdercoating is not an easy job and we eagerly await the finished project.

PS - Thank you "LOWES" for their contribution !!!!
