• Officer Kinney and Zar were certified in May and will soon start working patrol.  
  • On Saturday, May 17, 2008. The entire team competed at the Modesto Police K-9 trial. It was a blistering 105 degrees. Dave & Chance were awarded 1rst Place in Obedience, Roger and Zar competed in their first trial together. They won 3rd Place Obedience, 3 Place Obedience and tied for 5th Place in Protection. 
  • On Saturday, April 26, 2008. Geoff and Taz competed. They had a great day and were awarded 3rd Place Search, 4th Obedience and 4th Place Overall. 
  • November 2007, A heartfelt thank you to the Cameron Foundation. They donated the funds to the WSK9 Association for AMR Ambulance to purchase special made masks which allow pets in West Sacramento to have a fighting chance for life if they are unable to breath on their room. All ambulances in West Sacramento are now equipped with these masks, for the the smallest Chihuahua to the large great dane.
  • On Satuday, November 10, 2007, the West Sacramento K-9 Association held its second K-9 fundraiser. In attendance and there supporting us were Steve Brewer (Law Dogs), Sacramento Police and Davis K-9 teams, Chief Drummond, Deputy Chief Serrano, Lieutenants Brummett, Sockman and Delaini, City Councilmen Wes Beers and Mark Johannessen, Several Yolo County Deputy District Attorneys, several business who support the team, and local residence who came out to suppor the team and enjoy a wonderful spaghetti meal donated by Vince's Restaurant and the Colfax market.  and the list went on. It was a GREAT success and very much appreciated. Thank you to everyone.
  • West Sacramento Police Officers Jerry Watson and Nick Barreiro are now coming out to our training on Wednesdays and supporting us as helpers- agitators. They join Lee Hatfield from Davis PD who has been coming out for over six months supporting the team, also in hopes of becoming the next Davis PD K-9 team. Thanks go out to all three of you for you support.
  • On Friday & Saturday, October 26 & 27, 2007. The entire team competed in the final 2007 Western States Police Canine Association trial of the year, it was hosted by the Elk Grove Police K-9 Unit. Dave & Chance won 2nd Place Agility and 3rd Place Obedience. Geoff and Taz won 5th Place Overall and 5th Place Agility. Roger & Kilo won 1rst Place Agility, 2nd Place Agility, 3rd Place Search and 4th Place Overall. The team also won the Chief's trophy for top team. A great way to finish the year !
  • The West Sacramento Canine Unit is hosting a Spaghetti Feed fundraiser on Saturday night, Novermber 10, 2007 (5pm-10pm) at the old ILWU hall at 414 4th Street in West Sacramento. There will be a raffle and opportunity for the pubic to meet the Kp-9 teams. Come out and show your support ! Call 617-4910 and ask for Debbie Lugo or Ruth Pagano Tuesday- Friday 800am-500pm to RSVP.
  • The West Sacramento K-9 Association invites the public to a spaghetti feed on Saturday night, 11-10-07 at 5pm.Come out and meet the K-9's and try to win some raffle prizes, including a flat screen television.
  • We want to thank Steve at the LJ Urban Company for donating the old ILWU Hall for the spaghetti feed.
  • On September 22, 2007. Geoff with Taz and Roger with Kilo competed at the Jeff Azuar Memorial K-9 Trial in Vallejo. Geoff and Taz won 1rst Place in Agility. Roger and Kilo won 1rst Place Overall, 1rst Place Search, 2nd Place Protection and 4th Place Obedience.
  • On Friday and Saturday, September 7th and 8th, 2007. Roger and Kilo competed at the Lodi K-9 trials. They won 1rst Place in Narcotics, 1rst Place Agility and 4th Place Obedience. You may view a photo from the event HERE.
  • On Saturday, September 1, 2007. The entire K-9 team competed at the first annual State Fair K-9 Competition. Dave & Chance won 1rst Place Overall, 1rst Place Obedience, 1rst Place Agility, 2nd Place Protection, 3rd in Search. Geoff & Taz won 2nd Place Agility, 4th in Obedience. Roger & Kilo won 3rd Place Agility and 3rd Place Protection. The entire team did have a great day. You may view a photo from the event HERE or HERE.
  • West Sacramento Police recently mourned the loss of another one of our K-9's. K-9 "Kody" was teamed with Officer Dave Stallions. Kody took on the name "Kody the wonder dog." He was a socialite who loved people. He is well-known for his affectionate visits to West Sacramento schools. But nobody ever made a mistake that when necessary, Kody turned up the heat and had over 400 surrenders in his career with 40 apprehensions. He won several awards at K-9 competitions and was one the best well-rounded K-9's in the area. Kody retired with dignity and enjoyed his retirement living with his handler Dave Stallions and family. He will missed by everyone who had the the pleasure of meeting him. The West Sacramento K-9 Association send our deepest condolences.
  • Dave with Chance and Roger with Kilo competed at the Petaluma K-9 trial
    on August 11, 2007. Both teams did well, Roger & Kilo won third place in building searches.
  • Dave with Chance and Geoff with Taz competed at the San Joaquin K-9 trial on July 28, 2007. Both teams did well. Dave and Chance won 3rd obedience, 5th place agility and Helper's choice.
  • "Law Dogs" welcomes U.C. Davis PD K-9 Handler Walt Broussard and K-9 "Grimm" to our training team.
  • On Sunday, May 5, 2007, The Sacramento Bee wrote and excellent article in the metro section titled, "Long arm of the paw" on the Sacramento Police K-9 unit and referred to Steve Brewer as, "the dog whisperer."
  • West Sacramento Police recently mourned the loss of retired K-9 Hurricane, aka Cane. Cane was teamed with Ofc. Tod Sockman. This hard-working team assisted in hundreds of arrest and narcotics seizures. Cane will certainly be missed by officers and the citizens
    of West Sacramento. The West Sacramento K-9 Association send our deepest condolences.
  • West Sacramento PD, Davis PD and Sacramento PD K-9 are in discussion trying to assemble a K-9 trial or training day in 2008. Watch out for this one !

  • Dave & Chance, Roger & Kilo competed at the Sonoma DSA K-9 trial in Santa Rosa on June 1 & 2, 2007. Dave & Chance received trophies, 2nd Overall, 5th Place Obedience and 5th Place Agility. Roger & Kilo received 1rst Place Building Narcotic search, 2nd Place Article Search, 3rd Place Agility and 5th Place Protection .
  • Lawdogs recently welcomed Vacaville PD to the training group and Davis PD . Ron Trn’s newest K-9 Hurricane (Cane) is in basic training now.

  • Otto Construction and Armor Steele graciously built and donated an OUTSTANDING K-9 agility course to the K-9 unit. See the pics on our website.

  • The Modesto PD K-9 trial was held on May 19, 2007. Geoff & Taz competed and received 3rd place overall, 3rd place protection. 4th place agility and 5th place obedience.

  • The Manteca K-9 trial was held on April 28, 2007, Roger & Kilo received 3rd place Novice.

  • The Stockton PD K-9 trial was held on April 6th & 7th , 2007. Dave & Chance won 3rd PlaceObedience. Geoff and Taz won 5th Place Agility. Roger & Kilo won, 4th place Narcotics building search, 3rd place overall narcotics. 2nd place Novice and 1rst place obedience.

  • Newest K-9 Kilo was certified on November 8, 2006. He was certified for patrol functions, narcotics detection and evidence-article searching.

  • Davis Police canine teams, Officer Ron Trn and his partner “Lupo” and Officer Justin Raymond and his partner, “Otto” train weekly with West Sacramento Canine teams. Both teams are currently training with Steve in narcotic detection

  • West Sacramento Police welcome aboard our new trainer, Steve Brewer. Steve is a retired Sacramento Police Officer, canine handler and Bomb Technician. Steve has over 38 years of police canine training experience and is known throughout the United States as a premier very experienced trainer and problem solver. His company is Lawdogs.
